The heavy metal world is reeling from the recent passing of the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, known to his millions of fans as the Prince of Darkness, at age 76. But amidst the tributes and tears, a chilling question has emerged: Could Ozzy Osbourne have been euthanised? Both he and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, have been very vocal about their support for voluntary euthanasia, even revealing a suicide pact that would see them end their lives if faced with debilitating mental illness such as dementia or Parkinson’s. As whispers circulate and speculation mounts, it’s time to dig into the truth behind their words, drawing from Sharon’s autobiography and their candid interviews over the years.
Sharon Osbourne has never shied away from speaking her mind and her stance on assisted dying is no exception. In her 2007 memoir ‘Survivor: My Story - The Next Chapter’, she wrote about the pact she and Ozzy made after witnessing the devastating toll Alzheimer’s took on her father Don Arden. “We believe 100 percent in euthanasia,” she told The Daily Mirror in 2007, “so have drawn up plans to go to the assisted suicide flat in Switzerland if we ever have an illness that affects our brains. If Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimer’s, that’s it - we’d be off.” These weren’t idle words; they were a solemn vow, born from the pain of watching a loved one’s mind slowly and distressingly unravel. Sharon reiterated this sentiment in a 2017 interview with The Mirror, stating, “Ozzy and I have absolutely come to the same decision.” (https://people.com/sharon-osbourne-ozzy-osbourne-still-have-assisted-suicide-pact-8350468)(https://www.eonline.com/news/1419797/kelly-osbourne-addresses-claim-ozzy-osbourne-is-dying)(https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/kelly-osbourne-exposes-truth-behind-sharons-suicide-pact-claim-hits-back-ozzy-health-rumors)
Fast-forward to 2023, and the Osbournes revisited this pact on The Osbournes Podcast. When son Jack asked if euthanasia was “still a plan,” Sharon didn’t flinch. “Do you think that we’re gonna suffer?” she quipped, before adding, “Yes, we all are, but I don’t want it to actually hurt as well. Mental suffering is enough pain without physical. So if you’ve got mental and physical, see ya.”
Ozzy, diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2003, had already faced significant health challenges, including mobility issues following a 2019 fall. Yet, even as recently as 2014, he was resolute about pursuing physician-assisted suicide for any “life-threatening condition.” The couple’s plan was clear: if their quality of life - particularly their mental faculties -
deteriorated beyond repair, they’d head to Dignitas, the Swiss assisted dying organization, to “die with dignity.”(https://people.com/sharon-osbourne-ozzy-osbourne-still-have-assisted-suicide-pact-8350468)(https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/sharon-and-ozzy-osbourne-had-decades-long-assisted-suicide-pact/)(https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/sharon-and-ozzy-osbourne-had-decades-long-assisted-suicide-pact/)
But here’s where the plot thickens. Just eleven days before Ozzy’s death on July 22nd 2025, the couple’s youngest daughter Kelly Osbourne took to Instagram Stories to slam rumors about her parents’ so-called suicide pact. “Stop making articles or posts about how you think my parents are having a suicide pact,” she fumed. “That was bulls*** my mom said to get attention one time. And my dad’s not dying. Stop!” Kelly also debunked AI-generated videos claiming Ozzy was at death’s door, insisting, “He’s not dying. Yes, he has Parkinson’s, and yes, his mobility is completely different than it used to be, but he’s not dying.” Her fierce defensiveness raises questions: Was the pact real, or was it, as Kelly claimed, just Sharon stirring the pot for headlines? It’s common knowledge that Sharon Osbourne is no stranger to controversy or the spotlight. Her bluntness is part of her charm but it also muddies the waters. The pact wasn’t simply one-off comment, as Kelly suggests; it was a recurring theme, discussed in her autobiography, in interviews and on their family podcast. Yet Kelly’s insistence that it was “bulls***” suggests either a misunderstanding within the family or a deliberate attempt to reshape the narrative.
Although speculating on the cause of death is seriously frowned upon in certain circles, there’s no stopping it on social media. My own post on July 23rd 2025 asking whether Ozzy Osbourne could possibly have been euthanised was followed by a flurry of questions, criticisms and opinions. Many commentators had opposing views comments - some clearly against assisted dying while others such as Jane Smith @Donotcomply32 showing her support by stating “as long as it was entirely voluntary - I am ok with that.”
So what’s the truth? Did Ozzy, battling Parkinson’s and its physical toll, choose to stick to the pact and arrange his own death? Parkinson’s isn’t Alzheimer’s but it can bring its own mental and physical burdens. Sharon’s own words paint a picture of a woman unwilling to let her or her husband endure a life of dependency, unable to “wipe your own a**, pissing everywhere, s****ing, can’t eat.” These are raw, gut-punching sentiments, reflecting a deep fear of losing autonomy. But Kelly’s adamant denial - and her claim that Ozzy was “not dying” - complicates the story. Was she protecting her father’s legacy, or was the pact truly exaggerated?(https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-14898577/Kelly-Osbourne-truth-Sharon-Ozzy-suicide-pact.html)(https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/sharon-and-ozzy-osbourne-had-decades-long-assisted-suicide-pact/)
The lack of detail about Ozzy’s final days leaves room for doubt. No official reports have confirmed euthanasia, and Switzerland’s Dignitas operates under strict protocols, requiring clear mental capacity and consent. Ozzy’s Parkinson’s may have limited his mobility, but there’s no public evidence it robbed him of his mental faculties to the degree Sharon described as their red line. Still, the timing of Kelly’s outburst, just days before his death, feels too coincidental to ignore. Was it a preemptive strike against rumours or a sign of deeper family tensions?
This isn’t just about one rock icon’s fate - it’s a stark reminder of the ethical minefield surrounding euthanasia. Sharon and Ozzy’s openness about their pact forces us to confront uncomfortable questions: When does life become unlivable? Who gets to decide? And what happens when a family’s private plans become public fodder? The Osbournes have always lived in the spotlight but this chapter feels darker than the Prince of Darkness himself. Whether Ozzy’s death was natural or a choice, one thing is clear: Ozzy and Sharon have left us with a haunting question that won’t fade easily.

Big fan of Ozzy and Sabbath, but I did find it strange that he died as he obviously had his problems but wasn’t on death’s door and had said he had plenty left to live for and do including music even if touring was no longer an option. I don’t think he’d wish to die and leave his music and family. He enjoyed being part of reality ghost hunting shows with his son and wife too, so it wasn’t the end. Can Parkinson’s just kill you like that, unless it was a evil nurse that helped out and did something. Hope not.
Would not surprise me, considering all the above. Plus, so ‘coincidentally’ after the recent last show. Forgot she was Arden’s daughter… family of witches, lol.
